Despite the fears of another massive Coronavirus outbreak, thousands of bikers gathered in the small city of Sturgis, South Dakota on Friday, August 7th for the 80th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Since large gatherings have been canceled due to the pandemic, this rally could possibly be the largest gathering since the outbreak began. Organizers are expecting 250,000 people to attend from all over the country for this 10-day event.

Local residents and bikers say this could be a “super-spreader” event with the virus and many of the bikers that have already arrived on Friday. Some of the bikers are showing defiance at restrictions and rules.

People ride their bikes from all over, to a state such as South Dakota that pardons coronavirus restrictions. South Dakota has no special limits on indoor crowds, no mandatory mask requirements, and has a governor who is welcoming visitors with open arms and the money that they bring.
