ROCKFORDGas prices in the city are nearly 41 cents per gallon lower than a month ago, falling almost 11 cents per gallon in the past week.

According to GasBuddy’s survey of 139 gas stations in Rockford, the average gas price is sitting at $4.84, with the cheapest at $4.21 and the most expensive at $5.39.

“We’ve seen the national average price of gasoline decline for a fifth straight week, with the pace of recent declines accelerating to some of the most significant we’ve seen in years,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “So far, we’ve seen the national average drop for 34 straight days, with over 25,000 stations now back at $3.99 per gallon or less, and thousands more stations will join this week.”

The national gas average has dropped nearly 16 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.51 and down nearly 48 cents per gallon from a month ago.

“This trend is likely to reach a sixth straight week, with prices likely to fall again this week. Barring major hurricanes, outages or unexpected disruptions, I forecast the national average to fall to $3.99 (per gallon) by mid-August,” De Haan said.

The price of diesel has also declined, dropping nearly 11 cents in the last week and averaging $5.54 per gallon.
