Mitch Trubisky made some interesting comments via a zoom interview session Wednesday with reporters. The Chicago Bears snapped a 6 game losing streak this past Sunday by easily defeating the Houston Texans. The offense looked good and put up 30 first half points. Mitch Trubisky looked more in command of the offense than he had all year. Was that because of the Texans bad defense or was it due to the Bears play calling? Trubisky had this to say yesterday “I feel like they are strengths of mine and also strengths of this offense. I just thought it was a good idea to get Cole more involved, to get David more involved, to get A-Rob more involved. “This is just kind of some of the things I’ve been asking for.”

The strengths Trubisky is pointing out are his mobility and ability to throw on the run. Also Cole that he is referring to is the Bears 2nd round draft pick from the most recent draft TE Cole Kmet. There is saying in football that a good TE is a quarterback’s best friend as they usually supply a big target to throw to. The biggest takeaway from Trubisky’s comments is how has it taken head coach Matt Nagy this long to figure out what Trubisky does well and tailor an offense for it. I understand Nagy has a rep as an offensive guru with great schemes but as a head coach sometimes you just have to work with what you got. At the end of the day it is about wins and losses and for most they would prefer to win a different way than lose their way.

Trubisky’s comments while not groundbreaking were a bit of an eye opener. A few more performances like the one he had this past Sunday may save Nagy’s job. That is, of course, if Nagy can stop himself from getting in his own way.
