ROCKFORD — Betty White was a huge animal welfare activist, and one of her biggest legacies was helping animals. What would have been Betty White’s 100th Birthday on Jan. 17 brought many participating in a challenge in her honor.

The hashtag #BettyWhiteChallenge, which went viral on White’s birthday, asked people to donate $5 in her honor to your local animal shelter.

Residents and fans did just that. Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary ended up raising more than $12,000 in donations.

“Last Monday, we were overwhelmed with the kindness and generosity in honor of Betty White,” said Jaime Kusler, Kennel Supervisor. “Between the countless people shopping in with donations, we also had a flood of online donations that we are still trying to catch up with.”

Initially, Noah’s Ark thought they raised almost $12,000, but after they found missed donations on Facebook, they raised more than that amount.

“Thank you doesn’t even begin to say enough, but we know if Betty White would have made it to her 100th birthday, she would have been so proud of everyone who pitched in to make a difference for every rescue across the country.”

Just because White’s birthday is over, doesn’t mean you can’t still donate. Click HERE to help your local shelter.
