We thought we were in the clear with 2021 just days away but 2020 had more one surprise in store for the Stateline. Get your shovel out of your garage or snow blower… you’re going to need it.
According to Rockford Meteorologists, a winter storm warning will go into effect across all of Northern Illinois starting this afternoon and will remain in effect until mid-to-late-Wednesday morning. Starting with snow, sleet, and then freezing rain.
So how do you prepare for a big storm like this? One of the biggest risks that come from a big winter storm is the snowfall has the ability to knock out your electricity, heat, and sometimes communication services. Especially with a bad storm, this could last for a couple of days.
Here are a few things you should know when preparing for a winter storm:
- Make sure you’re checking for where to park on the street in your neighborhood so you stay out of the way of the snowplows.
- Before the snow starts to enter the Stateline, go to the grocery store and fill up on water, food, and any other household items that you need.
- Have a flashlight handy in case your power is affected during the winter storm.
- Make sure you have a good supply of blankets. If your power does go out, you will need as many as you can get!
- If you have a fireplace, stock up on wood.
- Make sure your phone is charged in case of emergencies and if the power goes out so you can follow your local media stations on weather advisories.
