Rockford native and Engineman 2nd Class Samantha Riley participated in a 9/11 remembrance walk while aboard the USS Sterett, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer. The USS Sterett is part of the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group that provides security to the Central Region which covers the Mediterranean, Pacific Ocean, and the Western Indian Ocean.

Riley circled the ship in firefighter gear to honor those who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001.
