ROCKFORD — It’s Rockford Public Library week in the city and residents are invited to celebrate.

Mayor Tom McNamara made a proclamation during City Council on Monday to declare this Rockford Public Library week in recognition of its 150-year anniversary.

“The history of the Rockford Public Library and the history of the city of Rockford have been intertwined for the last 150 years,” Paul Logli, president of the library board of trustees, said at the meeting. “It’s not just about books anymore. It’s about knowledge in all its forms.”

You are invited to support the organization Thursday at its celebration and fundraiser.

The fundraiser will take place from 6-9 p.m. at 120 N. Third St. It features live painting, music, a mobile library and more.

“We’re honored to be the team leading our wonderful library’s operations and services at the time of this important milestone,” Stainbrook said in a news release. “We are as proud of the library’s rich 150-year history as we are excited for its bright, exciting future.”
