The Bears played with no fans in the stands this past season. The Bulls and Blackhawks are currently playing in an empty United Center, but what about the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox will they have fans in the stands this season? That was the question asked to Dr. Allison Arwady, the director of the Chicago Department of Public Health, earlier this week. Her response was one that owners of Chicago’s two baseball teams probably didn’t want to hear. Arwady said that while the city is making “good progress,” sports teams are still likely “months away” from allowing fans to attend games.

Players and fans alike in Chicago are missing that in person connection but as Arwady puts it “I am certainly optimistic that we will be able to reopen further, but we’re going to have to be doing that in a way that’s cautious, and I really can’t predict months from now where we will be. (But) I am feeling optimistic based on the way things are going right now.” The Cubs and Sox are hopeful that by season’s end they will be able to welcome at least some fans back into the ballpark.
