SYCAMORE — Arts will take over Citizens Memorial Sports Complex on Sunday during a new event that provides an opportunity to support local artists and let kids immerse themselves in hands-on workshops.
The first Art in the Park takes place 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the sports complex, 435 Airport Road. There will be more than 20 artists from Sycamore, DeKalb, Roscoe, Rockford, Chicago, La Grange Park and other places in the region.
“We really have a great range of artists from all over showing, and in a lot of different mediums,” said Rhiannon Yandell, executive director and chief curator of Flaunt Productions.

Flaunt Productions is putting on the event in cooperation with the Rockford Area Arts Council and Sycamore Park District. Yandell said she and the Arts Council, which serves Winnebago, Boone, Ogle and DeKalb counties, got involved after the idea was pitched by Rudy Galindo, an abstract painter from Sycamore.
Sycamore “has a lot of really phenomenal artists and galleries,” Yandell said. “This is a way to celebrate that and put it front and center.”
The event also includes activities for kids with Do Art Productions, which works to help people of all artistic abilities find confidence and explore their creativity through the arts. The Treehouse Pie Company of Sycamore will sell pies, cheese, fruit and charcuterie. There will also be live music from local musicians throughout the day.
“I hope we have a lot of Rockford residents come out to Sycamore to attend,” Yandell said. “Get out and enjoy this Sunday, take a beautiful drive out to Sycamore and just enjoy the day.”

What: Flaunt Productions, in partnership with Sycamore Park District and the Rockford Area Arts Council, presents the first Art In The Park in Sycamore.
