ROCKFORD — Young basketball players took over the courts at Auburn High School on Friday night to test their skills and play other games as part of the four-day Fred VanVleet Fest.

The NBA All-Star’s festival kicked off Thursday night with Bet On Yourself Bowling, a cosmic bowling event at Cherry Bowl. It continued Friday with the Fred VanVleet Experience, which featured on-court skills challenges and other games, a 3-point contest, giveaways and more activities centered around basketball.

VanVleet, a 28-year-old NBA champion from Rockford, brought his annual festival back to the city this year after a two-year hiatus because of the coronavirus pandemic. The multiday event expanded with the addition of bowling, and it moved to a new location: his alma-mater of Auburn High School.
