ROCKFORD — A new specialty grocery store that promises to offer an eclectic mix of exotic snacks and sodas and familiar brands is coming to the city in early 2024.
Culture Crunch plans to open early next year at 5846 E. State St., which is between Party City and Buddy’s Home Furnishings. The company’s goal is to open by February, although it said that is subject to change based on a variety of factors.

The company will serve snacks from places like Japan, Thailand, Germany and other countries.
The concept stems from OneWayGlobal, an international snack and candy store formerly located on Charles Street that is now an online wholesale-only company.
Culture Crunch is also modeled after similar ventures in California, Arizona and Texas. Now, it aims to fill a gap for these type of treats in the Rockford area.
“At Culture Crunch, customers can expect an eclectic mix of familiar brands with unexpected twists,” a company spokesperson said in a message to the Rock River Current. “We will offer snacks that are well-known and loved but come in flavors or variants you might not have encountered before.”

Culture Crunch will also offer authentic lifestyle and home goods products. You can expect to see well-known brands such as Twizzlers, Fanta, Hershey, KitKat and Lay’s, as well as other brands that may not be household names.
“Expect to find unique and exotic flavors that cater to a wide range of taste preferences across the globe,” a spokesperson wrote to the Current. “We look forward to welcoming you to Culture Crunch and sharing this exciting culinary journey with our community.”
