ROCKFORD — Women from various union trades will join together Saturday at Beyer Stadium to paint the outfield fence, a recent addition to the historic ballpark where the Rockford Peaches once played.

Tradeswomen United of Northwestern Illinois is hosting the special Day of Action as a means of continuing the tradition of service at the park from members of the building and trades.

“Tradeswomen United is committed to giving back to our community and supporting efforts that align with our values,” said Dixie Perko, co-chairwoman of Tradeswomen United. “When we heard about the opportunity to beautify and support Beyer Stadium this way, we had to step up and say yes immediately.

“Each of us recognizes the major historic impacts the Peaches made on baseball and Rockford in particular, and we are excited to host a Day of Action that builds on the legacy of strong, empowered women.”

The Day of Action runs from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Beyer Stadium, 245 15th Ave., Rockford.

The community is welcome to attend and help with other beautification projects at Beyer. TWU members will be available for education and career promotion.
