The recent release of Dierks Bentley’s cover of “American Girl” by Tom Petty was part of a larger announcement that a full album laced with country covers of Petty tunes is on its way. It’s been almost 7 years since the legendary singer’s passing and now some of his music is being rethought of by the country genre as a whole.

On Monday, The Morning Stampede with Steve Summers announced the release date for the album with by May 31st, 2024 and the featured artist list is something to marvel at. From George Strait to Chris Stapleton, from Dolly Parton to Luke Combs plenty of country icons will find themselves breathing new life into all-time classics. Even Lainey Wilson is set to team up with Wynonna on “Refugee” and Willie Nelson will partner with his son, Lukas, to remake “Angel Dream #2”.
